Matter!

Bucket Filling Fun!

A person can be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper. The way to fill a bucket is to be kind to someone. A smile is an excellent way to fill a bucket and it makes you happy. On the other hand, a bully-type person can dip into your bucket and then you feel sad-but he feels sad too. He not only dipped into your bucket, but emptied his as well. What a concept we can teach children!
Have You Filled a Bucket Today? is a book with a new twist on the Golden Rule. It is a book that explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our feelings about ourselves. When our buckets are full, we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad. It's important to know that we can fill our own bucket and so can others. We can also dip into it.
I read Have You Filled a Bucket Today? last week. We learned what it was like to be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper.  On Wednesday and Thursday, the kids got to pick a name out of a bucket and try to keep the name a secret.  Then sometime before we had Religion class in the afternoon, each child was to try to hep fill his/her special person's bucket.  Then at Religion time each child drew a picture for his/her special person.  The smiles were so precious when they recived the picture made especially for them.

Fantastic Faith Jan 23

Gospel lesson for the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - 1-18-2015

Dear Parents,

Today your child listened to a simplified version of  Mark 1:14-20.

Theme: Jesus calls His followers

To reinforce at home:
In the Gospel of Mark, we heard about what happened when Jesus called the first disciples while they were fishing.  We know that Jesus calls each of us to do different things.  We tried to guess what Jesus was teaching the other fishermen -–perhaps about tolerance or patience and definitely always about LOVE!

Activities for home:
*Share God’s love!  Give a hug to someone who is sad and needs one.

*Read scripture!  Read the story of Jonah to your child.  The story is a wonderful one about trying to run away from the work God asks you to do.

*Set an example!  As Christians, you and your child show others all about Jesus just by living your everyday life.  Decide together to do something to show others about Jesus – (examples might be: to purchase something for your local food pantry, to work together on your patience or your tempers, to be more polite to strangers by holding doors or being nice while driving.)

Fantastic Faith 1-16

Gospel lesson for the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time - 1-18-2015

Dear Parents,

Today your child listened to a simplified version of  John 1:35-42.

Theme: Jesus gathers a community

Symbol:  phone

To reinforce at home:  When God calls us, will we hear?  When we hear, will we answer?

We talked about how Andrew and Simon wanted to see where Jesus lived.  He invited them to His home and they became Jesus' followers.

The kids then drew what they would tell Jesus if they got to spend time with Him.

Activities to do at home:
*Recognize God's Call - Talk with your child about times when you know the right thing to do.  Help them to recognize God's call in their own lives.

*Love God's People - As caregivers to young children, you are answering God's call in a very special way.  Set a good example for them and help them understand how you are called in your particular ministries and how you try to answer God.
